Mine's a 97 normal UK Sharan TDI and I only needed to remove the 3 foot wide shelf thing that is held in by three screws to access the pollen filter. I did not need to remove any wipers or linkages, but have a dim recollection of having to park the wipers in the upright position. Of course I removed the battery connection afterwards as I didn't want the mechanism to park itself with my fingers in there.

Sure it took an hour or so of fiddling to get the shelf out and figure how to remove the front retaining bit of the filter holder, but after that it was not rocket science. In the end I didn't see exactly how the front retaining bit did come off, and remarkably it went back on easily enough - just seemed to click into place.

That's an odd thing I have found with my VWs - if I can't figure how something is fastened on, it will usually come off by pulling or prising...

    Hope this helps. OD
