I have just tried to start my VW Golf mark 3 (1997) which has a factory fitted alarm (VAG UK approved remote control alarm system). Having opened the door with the remote which deactivates the alarm I tried to start the car. The engine turned over but would not start - I am assuming the battery is almost flat. Before I got out of the car the alarm started for no apparent reason and will not stop with the remote control (the battery is working as the light flashes). Being unable to stop the alarm or lock the doors using the remote I resorted to disconnecting the battery to stop the noise and locking the doors with the key - but the car is now stranded. Please help!

Most alarms have a low voltage sensor in them that allows them to go off when the voltage falls below a certain point. Try either jumpstarting or charging the battery. If you charge it, leave the battery disconnected until it is charged. when you reconnect it, the alarm will sound, but you should be able to disarm it then. If you jumpstart it, connect the battery first,(the alarm will probably sound, you will just have to deal with it), then connect the jumper cables. Once the cables are connected(with the jump vehicle running) you should then be able to disarm the alarm. Good luck
