I've been reading a few articles recently that suggest it is just as economic as well as generally better for the engine (smoother, quieter) to use super diesel fuel such as Shell Vpower, Total Excellium etc on the basis that they provide extra mpg as well which offsets the extra cost.

I'm going to try a few tankfuls of Shell Vpower diesel over the next months and see if there is any improvement.

I was wondering if anyone has already tried or has some figures on these fuels?

Did find this which suggests there is no real benefit at all....

I know with shell v power petrol cleans the combustion chambers and fuel injectors there for making the engine more efficient (also 98ron), But I haven't seen any tests on diesel yet. It worth noting that supermarket fuel tends to contain more sulphur then bp, shell etc

damn it, why does it always revert back to petrol when the question was about diesel , the question we should be asking is why hasn't anybody tested them and got results, are we being conned with no advantage, just a higher price?

there is a lot of questions answered here, some not very suprising ones, less mpg, harsher sound etc

    57 plate 140tdi se estate.

I am in the process of trying different premium brand diesel products.
I have now put in 43 tankfuls and see no difference compared with Sainsbury fuel.

However, as we are now entering cooler weather I would expect consumption to drop. As my consumption has stayed the same does that mean that the premium fuel is working

I have 55 plate Passat 2.0TDI Sport with cruise. Mainly motorway, dual carriage way and A road driving, and over the past 4000 miles have averaged 52mpg according to the on board display. Always use Shell V power diesel, as it's the only diesel sold in the UK to gaurantee the consistent quality, which even Shell's normal diesel can't keep to. Despite this no performance increase, but perhaps an extra 2-5mpg more with this fuel.
