I have just bought an A4 2.0 SE FSI on an 03 plate. I have been reading in some places that some of the cars com prewired for an auto changer. They mention a compartment in the boot but i can not see one. Also there is a place in the glove box where an autochanger can go. How can i find out it the car is prewired and where it is

    Hi Lee,

I bought an '02 A4 and thought that the space in the glovebox would fit the multichanger, but this isn't always the case (see the picture in https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...t=multichanger).

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=16837 might also help.

I bought the wiring loom from eBay for about £15, I can't remember where in the boot it appears.

    Hope this helps!

I guess it's possible to use a non OEM cd changer in the glove box? Maybe it would be easier to install?

I have a Symphony in my A6 which is a 6 CD stack but I also ahve an after market 6 CD changer in the boot also. Both are controlled by the head unit and everything works fine so I actually have a 12 cd autochanger

On another note Hagis did you ever manage to get your head unit out?

Nah! I've bought a stereo from Aldi that has Bluetooth, USB and SD card support and was hoping to fit that.

However, (this is all documented in another post somewhere if you can be bothered to look) in the process I've managed to work out how to get the glovebox out and have also discovered that the person who fitted the car phone kit has managed to wedge the stereo in (presumably with the wire for the phone) so I can't get the old stereo out.

This weekend (baby & DIY permitting), I'm hoping to try again and get the stereo out. If that works, the new stereo goes in. if that doesn't work I'm going to fit the multichanger and butcher the back of the glovebox to fit it in.

Yes I ahve been following your other thread so was up to date with much of what was going on. Just didn't know if you managed to get the old one out, I think your last question was how to remove the heater controls? Is that a viable way in?

Are you sure there is no compartment in the boot? There should be. On my A6 it is on the near side (passenger side) behind a panel. The wiring was not already installed on mine so I got behind the Concert II single CD player then ran the cable to the door sills, then underneath them to the back seat where I poked them around and threaded them under the carpet, and finally into the CD changer with the mounting bracket. No messy cables anywhere, took about 90 minutes from start to finish and that was me taking my time!

I wanted to go directly under the seats but the rear seats don't come out of my A6 saloon, nor do they push forward. So i had to thread them around the seats, had to pull really hard on them to get the space it felt like they were going to rip!

Shame Hagis' A4 is bitching about it! Mine was fine but it's an A6 though.

I had a go at pulling the heater controls out last night but I couldn't shift them. There's no much in the way of things to hold on to though. I'll have another play at the weekend and see what I can do.
