    can anyone tell me where the siren is situated in a 2001 1.9 tdi passat.

    The siren is located on the bulkhead (R/H Drivers side) next to the battery. These are prone to water contamination when the bulkhead drains become blocked and a substantial amount of water gathers in the well where the battery is located. It can get deep enough to submerge the alarm siren (which is full of electronics) and this causes all sorts of problems, including false alarms. You will have to remove the plastic trim and battery to get at it. Its not a very easy job, best of luck.
