Hi,my 2002 1.2 Polo has just failed the Mot on Front Wishbone rear Bushes need replacing
Is this a hard DIY job to do as the local VW Dealers say it is a 3 hour job at £85.00 / hour plus vat, which seems alot to change a couple of cheap Bushes
    thanks for any advice Keith

I think this is sometimes called, as it is on my MOT report 'Suspension arm synthetic mounting' ?

My 02 polo failed on this, this month. Parts i got from the dealer, other places can get hold of them but usualy not genuine VW (the parts guy at vw said other poeple produce them but never press them correctly so there not exactly the right shape)

There only a few quid anyway so its worth getting the genuine parts from VW.

Reason it takes so long is because you need to drop the sub frame to be able to take out the wishbone and replace the bushes.

The bushes are also a NIGHTMARE to take out as they are so, so tight! And to get the new ones in is just as difficult.

I took it to a family friend who owns a garage and he did it for me while i was there.

He got away with dropping the subframe a few inches by loosening the bolts and used an axle stand to support it.

My local vw dealer is charging £100 per hour so its worth taking it to a vw specialist who will usualy charge half that. And yea i think it would take atleast 2 hours?

It would be a tricky job to do without a hydraulic ramp i think. I hope ive got the right thing as everyone seems to call them different things!
