Should I get engaged or not?

How long have you guys been married? How long before you got engaged?

And is it possible to create polls?

    Hmmm.

Engaged at 18, married at 23, divorced at 25

Engaged at 27, married at 28, divorced at 40

Engaged at 42, didn't make it to marriage, split up at 47

Maybe I am not the best person to advise you

Eeek, that is an off-putting thought.

I know we're both in love though, we're both positive we want this. I'm still of mixed minds. More so after talking to you chaps about it!

It's a bit of a cliche but if you had to ask maybe you are not ready?

Anyway don't be put off by me! My brother has been married for 22 years and they are perfectly happy and have a wonderful relationship.

The only reason I ask is because we are both still at Uni/College. We are also both worried in our ways about how our parents are going to react. Other than that I'm sure I want to ask her.

The cliche makes me think I'm not ready because I have been worried about these things. I know for sure though, were we both not still in full time education that I'd have already asked her.

You have time my boy no need to rush

I suggest getting engaged and make it a nice long engagement. You will both ahve shown some commitment to each other without taking the final step too early in life.

I am still best friends with my first wife it's just that we changed during our 20's and realised we wanted different things.

Then again my second wife could burn in hell for all I care

Maybe you should join one of the other threads where Uncle Christopher is giving out excellent advice at the moment

I was thinking of a nice LOOOOOONNNGGGG engagement. Until a year or two AFTER we both finish uni/college and are settled together.

But you are right, there is no rush. It's not a decision to be made lightly.

Ask Uncle Christopher is a good idea!

Wouldnt dare to advise anyone on that, thats a case where you have to know yourself whats right for you.

Married 14 years and no complaints so far (thats my line anyway and i know better than to say anything else )

you shouldnt worry though about what anyone else thinks that sort of stuff is about the two of you and what ye want for the future.

That is true! I was thinking about that a few minutes ago actually after I typed it! Problem is the parents can make life hard!

Does anyone know if long engagements work?
