    Hi all,

Have examined all previous threads but cant find anything so was wondering if anyone else has had a simular issue or can help?

A few days ago as i unlocked the car the Climate Control unit displayed a warning on the right hand side "BOOT FEHLER". When i started the car the unit would not work, no air con, heating or heated front and rear blower, just dead, however you could clearly hear the unit working under the bonet, also when i turned the engine off and removed the key the warning stayed on and the climate control remained backlit.

I popped it into my local independant garage who do my servicing and they said they hadn't seen it before. So i removed the fuse and it reset and was ok for a few days, but this morning it happened again and although its now easy to solve its not great to be fiddling about in the cold at 5AM removing and reinserting fuses!

So if anyone has any idea what it means or any advice on how to solve it i would be very grateful!

    Cheers

Fehler sounds German so I had a look and a translation of 'boot fehler' means 'boat mistake'. Makes no sense. Fehler or mistake in English does. Obviously it's found something wrong. I've checked for boot in German on other translations but it still says boat. I can only assume that boot is correct and it should say boot mistake/error. Either way it doesn't really help much. Connecting it to vagcom is your best bet; see what fault codes are read.

I think it means 'boot error' as in the type you can get when a PC decides not to boot.

May be worth disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and seeing what it does then, its a long shot but who knows?

Fehler is the German word for defect, so it's trying to tell you that it is feeling poorly sick. Might be worth a phone call to your local dealer service department, ask for the senior technician and get his advice on "what this means and what it will cost me to get it fixed".

You don't have to pay crazy dealer rates to get it fixed, but if the problem keeps cropping up it seems to suggest that either something is loose or worse, something is on it's way out.

My sister's fiancee is German and translated the above as "Boot Failure" - as in a computer boot failure.

    Hope this is useful.

Many thanks all the above for your help, i had done the translation myself and guessed as much, its been ok again this week so have my fingers crossed that it will be ok, but if it occurs again i think a trip to Audi may be my best bet.

Hi Guys, just thought id put an update on here as its a while since this happened and its always useful if anyone else is unlucky enough to have the same problem!

The problem was with the climate control head unit, i had 2 opinions and both said it wasnt a common fault therefore the new unit had to come direct from Audi and that was £500+vat+fitting as these have to be coded to the car...It was a big bill and it hurt!

However its been a month or so now and all fine. I would also like to recomend a company called 4Rings for anyone in Essex/Kent/London, very proffesional ex Audi Techs who come to your house or place of work.

They are based in Dartford, Had my Cam and timing belts and water pump replaced at the same time.

When I got my A4, I had the (common) problem of worn buttons and just got a replacement from ebay and whacked it straight in, no coding or anything and it's worked fine for a month now. Only thing is it shows up as a fault on vag-com, but nothing else.
