Hi I am a brand new forum user with a 2001 (newer shape) Audi A4 saloon with central locking issues, this is a long post so please bare with me,

Issue: Alarm sounder started to go off late at nights (not full blown alarm but more a chirping), i thought it was the cold weather affecting a switch/sensor and disconected the sounder in the rear!! then 8 months later the key fobs intermitanty stopped opening the doors but once in the car and started they would work again, now they they stopped altogether.

    what have found/achieved to date:
coded both keys, changed key batteries both no effect, i disconected the battery and it all started working again.....until i locked the car!! so disconecting the battery would suggest the electronics are re-setting and all is ok till i lock and leave it, I narrowed it down to when locking, the red light in door does a series of flashes then is solid for 2-3mins, central locking still locks/unlocks ok with key at this point. It is after 2-3 mins the red light flashes constant to tell you alarm is active?, the second this flashes the keys do not work and i have to open manually with key and disconect the main battery to reset. , it would sugest an alarm problem shorting or cunfusing the locking module. My work around is I found if the bonnet is left open the central locking works ok, so i removed the micro-switch from the bonnet catch so the car thinks the bonnet is open and doesn't "set" the alarm fully, i assume this is an electronic fault but am unsure if there is an alarm module or if the problem is the central locking module under the seat, my next plan is to check this module under the seat for connections ect but if I could confirm it is faulty i will change, but they are not cheap!!, any suggestions or similar problems you have solved will be greatly appreciated, and prove if it is this module or other

The central locking is electronic (switches) not Pnumatic

well thats the 1st post from me, i hope for all your sakes they rest are a bit shorter!!!

Also my Audi is registered 2001 but a think it wil be the same shape as the B6 forum, how do i know i have a B6 car??

    i await some good solutions!!

    Andy

Sounds like a duff Convenience module - as you indicate under the front passenger seat.
Simplest way is to VAG-COM it - "no communication" with the module then definently a duff module that requires replacement, etc.
You have errors - in which case this may suggest the problem.

Great when they work -Crazy when they don't!!

    B6?? 2001 should be a B6 - VIN number has 8E2 in it?

    Hi

I have just bought a 1999 A4, 1.8 SE and the remote locking doesn't work with either of the two key fobs. the batteries read 6 volts for each fob, and the seller di say that he'd changed them recently. I have tried to sync them up using the Audi user manual and by following the instructions on this forum (two key sync). The central locking works on just the drivers door when unlocking with the key, but then everything unlocks when the ignition is turned on. I have noticed that the hazards flash quickly if the drivers door is unlocked and opened, and the ignition is left off. There is a sticker advertising an alarm, but so far it hasn't sounded (would the flashing hazards indicate the alarm is going even though silent?) I have located the vacumn pump, which was bathing in water, but the central loacking seems to function non-the-less.

Any ideas where to go from here? VAGCOM?

    Rob

Certainly in both cases a fault code read, clear and test is the first step. Before this you can both eliminate one problem by lifting up the carpet on the passenger’s front floor and get your hand underneath the sound deadening to see if it is wet.

Thans Crasher.....so what is it that's so important under the carpet? I've seen this thread elsewhere, but something or someone on this forum has lead me to believe that the pump also houses the radio (rf) receiver....

what will a wet floor do - apart from smell after a while
