    2008 - (08) A6 2.0 TDI S LINE - Steering fine until today - light'ish but accurate and quick.

Recent warranty works - new discs/pads - cam belt adjust to loosen off to help reduce engine whine.

For no apparent reason today apart from a small metalic clunking underneath the vehicle, which in fairness could have been road debris bouncing up, the steering has become very oddly overly light, and completly non direct - feels almost "dislocated" from the car - or more accuratley the steering wheel seems to turn - followed by the road wheels after some pause - rather than at the same time? Worrying!

There can be no way this is right, but no warning lights, no constant noises, just sudden change in feel and performance of steering for the worst?

It will be going to the dealer of course - but any ideas as one is tearing ones hair out in the interim?

Difficult to say without having a look underneath. Did the clunking underneath happen just before the steering went funny?

If so, it could have been something falling off which has affected it. Is it still clunking? It could have been something on the suspension coming loose which has affected the feel and the responsiveness.

As you say, get it into the dealer. It's under warranty.

    Hi Thanks for the note,

I have had since the S Line checked out fully at the main dealer - and it was apparently possibly/maybe connected to an "overactive" servotronic steering unit - which is now completely fine - apparently not an option frequently specified on S Lines, and could not have been dangerous due to the numerous audi safety features - as I am advised.

I must say since I have had the car back it has been A1 - as they say suck it and see, but delighted with the ride otherwise - in particular as it follows totally faultless ownership of an 05 reg BMW M3.
