    Hi Everyone,

I have recently bought a 57 plate 2.0D 140bhp S-line automatic saloon. It's a fantastic car but the fuel economy has been poor thus far.

I used to own a 51 plate A4 1.9D 130bhp Avant manual which I did 150k miles in and never got below 50mpg in all that time. According to Audis official figures I should be getting 47 mpg in the new car. However the best I have got from the first three tanks is 39mpg, doing the same sort of driving as I did in the old car!

As I do 25k+ miles a year fuel economy is extremely important to me. As it only has 10k miles on the clock I am hoping that it will improve over time. However I'd like to hear from people with similar engines so I can assess what level of fuel economy I am going to receive in the future, as I intend to do at least 100k miles in this car.

    Thank you for reading.

It will get better the more miles that are on it, it seems that you need at least 20k on the clock to be up in the 40s, but dont hope for 50+, im strugling to get that from mine which is a 05 plate manual with 92k on the clock,

i seem to be getting around 45-48mpg now ive dumped aload of cleaner through it, but you will be lower with auto box on the back of the engine,

    Hi,

I bought my Audi a4 2.0 tdi 55plate avant around 8 months ago. So far the MPG has been (whcn calculated properly on full tanks)

    39.5

    34.7

    38.4 mpg

Had it remapped this month so its circa 175 bhp at the moment.

Going out now to fill her up to the neck and see if remapping will improve my mpg when driven steady! I'll keep you all posted.

Good to hear! I'm not hoping for 50+ but I am hoping for close to what Audi claim i.e. 46-47. It sounds like that is a realistic proposition once it's properly run in.

That sounds very similar to my own figures. I'll be interested to hear whether your mpg has improved with the re-map. Just out of interest, how did that affect your insurance premiums?

Had my 2.0 TDI 140 Multitronic (20k miles) for a week now and with varied driving (mainly A roads) have averaged 40mpg. That's working it out from fill to fill.

    Hi,

I also thought my mpg was crap at first. I have been using Spritmonitor since I bought my (used) 07 plate A4 2.0 140ps TDI and the results are in my sig below.

I had to adjust my DIS as it was quite optimistic, reporting my mpg as 50+!!! Now it is correct at around 43...

I bought a 05 plate 59k miles A4 2.0Tdi in August and have done 2000 miles in it so far and get about 42 mpg but the computer tells me I get 48 mpg on average and I reset the computer every time I fill up.

Is it normal for the computer to be so far out and on the plus side?

See my post - my A4 was reporting 50+ MPG... It can be adjusted at the dealership or by someone with VAG-COM.

When you say adjusted do you mean reset or adjusted to make it right.

If it needs adjusting to make it right why do they come out of the factory like it is it just to make you think its better than it is.

I think its the computer being more accurate in later models.

My 05 2.0Tdi reported 50 mpg average - however a real calculation of mileage and fuel from 1 fill up to the enxt gave around 45-46mpg
My 06 computer gives an average of 44.8 over 10K and calculations are about the same
