Hi, I'm trying to fit an xlink ipod adaptor to my a3 (which has a double din symphony 2). It looks like the previous owner has buggered up the slots so despite having the right removal keys, they just don't seem to bite & the radio won't budge.

Took it to a car audio shop who also had the tools & they couldn't get it out either.

Is there an easy way of getting it out (eg taking side panels off ?) to push the metal bits in so it slides out ?

Failing that shall I just fork out on an rds-e & get a professional place to install it & do all the hard work for me as presumably they have to take apart bits of the dash anyway ??

are you using 2 or 4 tools?

my xlink only came with 2 but it takes 4 to get it out - see my guide in the 'how to' section

sorry if i'm teaching you to suck eggs!

The double din head units can be a real pain to take out, it's easiest if you get somebody to pull the two on one side while you pull the other two.

Thanks guys, yes it's still being a right sod!!

The keys all go in, some with more resistance than others, but don't feel like they "click" & the keys end up getting a bit bent when I try and pull the radio out with them (& kills my fingers!!). I have noticed that the radio is slightly looser when they are in so think a couple are working.

I notice the dash around it is quite flexible rubber. Is it possible to slide something like a butter knife in the gap between dash & stereo to prize it out ?

Hi, I too have a symphony unit that wont come out despite having the four curved ended tools in place, what am I doing wrong ? It feels as if the unit is somehow bolted into place within the dash as it does not move at all,
I made sure the tools flat side were facing outwards, and that they all. clicked in place. The fault that i am trying to fix is one of Error3 in other words the CD's are stuck and wont select or eject.
    Any help greatly aprieciated

I got round it in the end. Get a pair of very large flat headed screwdrivers & put either side of the symphony, so the screwdrivers slip in between the rubber and the unit (whilst the keys are in place). Then prize out the unit gently with the screwdrivers (don't worry the dash is rubber so won't damage it, although it bends it slightly, but bends straight back). The unit then popped out no problem.

Thanx, it was the rubber strip down each side that was wedging it tight and with abit more effort the whole unit pulled out.

    Hey Guys

Thank you all for starting and contributing to this thread!

With your help iv finally got my symphony out of my A6 - i had the correct keys but still no joy. I didnt have the confidence to go for it with the big screw drivers until i found this thread.

    The result: a big success!

    Thanks very much

    Cheers
