hiya guys . got a golf here thats hunting at idle ive done the usual things new fuel filter and plastic cap on return pipe .

have tried for codes but no codes listed

not tried anything like egr valve as yet .

but there is a strange thing. if you clamp the fuel feed pipe the engine settles to the propper idle speed .

any ideas on this ? also any common faults to look out for

engine code 1z/ahu its done 150000 so could be wear and tear

any theories or suggestyions more than welcome ...thanks ...

....shuggy....ps it also keeps breaking comms with vag-com ?

I have the same engine and the same sort of mileage and have never experienced that problem.

My guess (i said guess) is a problem with fuel delivery or injectors.

If it was an issue with the engine itself then it's probable that the problem would be even worse at high revs.

Probably a clogged up/blocked fuel line or injector.
That would also explain why you aren't getting a fault code.

And the problem would subside at higher revs because the other cylinders are having an easier time turning the engine whereas at idle a non-firing cylinder is more noticeable.

If the blockage is only partial then it would also subside at higher revs because the speed of fuel flowing through the lines increases significantly.

Obviously getting someone to check the lines would be best, but maybe first put some cleaner in your diesel and run it around for a few miles...

    a product like this:

you'll probably find this does the trick.

I will eventually have a look this weekend.
I agree it will be a prob with the fuel delivery.
I will try my fuel pump relay first which is a common problem and then am going to swap my injectors.
Have tried fuel cleaner and service etc but it didnt help.
I'll post if i can sort it
