    Hi guys,

My interior lights have now failed. This is the way it started. On using the remote to open the doors, the lights would come on but dim out quite quickly in about 4 seconds even before the engine is switched on (but other lights were ok). This continued for about a week. The dimness resembled that of a torch when the battery is going flat. However the other door lights on the underside on all four doors are working quite well n very bright.. So i took the car to the nearest halfords, got the battery tested and there was a faulty cell. Got it replaced but no luck with the interior lights. I think my passenger door lock is faulty as there are days it works quite well (as in when I use the interior lock button it may or may not lock on the first hit. If it doesnt, the two or three hits does the trick).

So, what has happened to my interior lights?

    Many thanks

    Redman

First thhing to do is check the passenger foot well for "ANY" signs of water/dampness. Under the carpet is the Convenience Control Module and you may have to remove the trim and lift the carpet to ensure it is totally dry under there. Water in there may lead you to check the plenum chamber drain holes under the battery and the brake servo. Enter Plenum Chamber in the search engine for more information. Regards Peter

    Thanks Peter.

The carpet in the whole car is totally dry. checked the area behind the battery and the servo du da thing and the holes were there and clear as i even poured water on the screen to simulate rain on the windscreen and there was no pooling around that area. checked the CCM area by lifting the extremely heavy carpet and it was dry although the metal part felt cold ( the whole car was cold coz the outside temp was 5 degrees) . The wires at this housing all seemed ok with no obvious corrossion. Checked the two drain pipes at the front door and there was nothing. checked all the fuses at the drivers side and all ok. checked the pollen filter next to the battery and alarm and although slightly dirty, it was dry. Something I forgot to mention is that the interior lights can be switched on manually.....but not when the key has been removed from the ignition or when using the remote to open the car doors. Any new ideas?.....

    Thanks redman.

A friendly guy with a vag-com should be able to pin point the problem. It sounds like a CCM problem but they are not cheap to replace. Regards Peter
