Okay having had a water leak for a bit (getting through about 1.5litres ever 1000 miles or so), I finally took my A6 (2001 2.7T Q Avant) to the nice local independent chappies in Poole. They identified the leak (with a camera apparently) as being the auxiliary water pump failed. Sprinkling water over the back of the engine.

They have quoted me 3.5 hours and £450 all in - as the pump is in just about the most ludicrous position in the Vee at the back, so loads of stuff has to come off to get to it.

Is this reasonable, is it just one of those things that I have just got to deal with? Sadly the car won't even drive better afterwards - I just won't get through the coolant (and won't have to worry about icy weather)!

Thoughts anyone
