I have a '98 Audi A4 and after running it pretty good one night i noticed the turbo was a bright orange. It does this after normal use (10-15min on the highway). Is this something i should be worried about or is it just how the turbo's work? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Also if anyone has any suggestions on fairly cheap "starter" upgrades for performance it would be much appreciated. I'm just getting into this sort of things, dealing with cars and tuning, so im pretty much totally lost.

Thanks, i really hope so because this issues is bothering me and I dont want to prolong any repairs on it because of the colder coming months. I'm afraid the turbo will crack if this heating and cooling continues. HELP!?

when you say bright orange,do you mean glowing red when running,or is the turbo just
an orange rust type colour when cold?
if the turbo housing is glowing red when running, then the internal "snail" of the housing may be damaged, causing the exhaust gas to stay in there. if both the exhaust manifold
and turbo are glowing red then i would say it was over fueling,or the timing is out.
    regards,
    stewy.

Thanks.Well it is an orange rust color normally, but Im talking when it's been running it looks like a hot piece of metal. It's only the turbo not the exhaust or the intake, just the turbo itself. So i guess that means i need to get a mechanic in to look at it.
