    Hi All,

Recently started to sort the issues on my 95 2.0 GTI. Car has 2 issues. First it runs rough. Have replaced plugs (Bosche super 4's), Dizzy and rotor arm,HT leads - all from VW and the fuel filter but car still 'bogs down' when flooring it from low revs in say 5th. Car pulls well if revved hard thro' gears.

Second issue is with the front suspension that sits higher than other GTI's I've seen that aren't lowered. Should I just buy new struts and springs? Cheers, Simon.

I could be wrong but i had an idle issue with the same car which was fixed by cleaning in and around the throttle body and butterfly valve - messy but only takes 15 mins. May help your issue.

The front suspension issue is an odd one - never heard of anyone putting bigger springs on so i was wondering if you had smaller diameter wheels/low profile tyres? If not, lower springs should sort it. The shocks should be good to go unless you lower it lots.

Only advice, not the bible - still learning myself!

Thanks for that. Can someone please measure the distance between the top of tyre to underside of skirt. Mine measures 110mm. I am running on standards 15" BBS's.

I'd fit a suspension kit to it, 110mm sounds like you could yodel into the gap and it wouldn't stop echoing for days.

Running issue now seems to be solved. Found holes and splits in all breather pipework and the pipe that runs from inlet manifold to fuel pressure regulator was holed. Now I realise that the car is just a bit slow.

On the suspension front - any suggestions on what to get. Gas struts on Ebay £99 plus lowering springs about £85 or coilovers at £250 ish (will replace shocks while I'm at it as are probably worn)? Is 60/40 lowering too much for me at 38's year old?

They're selling coilover kits in ebay for £200 delivered. Coilovers are definately the way to go, you can go as low as you like then.

Age doesn't matter, dubbing is a way of life.

Shortened springs with an adjustable platform? You fit the springs as standard, drop the car onto the floor and wind up or down until you've got right height front and back, then lock them off.
