Could anybody tell me what I'd have to adapt on my VR6 loom to run a 24v 4 Motion VR6 lump and ECU. I'm thinking most of the loom will be the same.

The standard lump got quite a few miles on it and has seen better days so instead of hunting down a low mileage 12v, I think I should be able to buy a decent mileage 24v engine for good money. You also get the advantage of over 200bhp standard.

The 24v loom is completely different in every detail. The 24v is drive by wire, has four lambda sensors, variable valve timing actuation, later models run individual coil packs and not a single one (the single coil pack has a different connector but you can fit the coil pack from an AAA/ABV) and many other details. To even get it running the ECU has to be modified to remove the immobiliser (which is easy to get done) but it still gets upset about being divorced from its Haldex and ABS controllers which isn’t so easy to deal with.

This isn’t to say it can’t be done as plenty have and there is a useful thread on the Corrado forum about this very subject.

I thought the ECU might be coded to the keys, is it easier to fit a programmable ECU?

Also can you fit an earlier type throttle body to avoid over complication with the drive by wire?

I'd imagine with a programmable ECU I'd be able to run one Lambda sensor aswell.

The ECU is coded to the dash and the dash reads the keys. An aftermarket ECU would be easier in the initial installation and would allow a single lambda sensor but you have to program it from scratch and also find one that will support drive by wire or convert it to cable throttle which is a backward step to the sophistication of DBW.
