reverse lights not working

Hi im putting this on behalf of a friend. She has a polo 54 plate 1.2. Just recently her reverse lights have stopped working and wondered y? Ive done all the usual things checking bulbs and what not. A guy at volkswagen reckoned there a switch in the gear box that turns the reverse lights on, rechoned this could be the problem? if so has anyone else experienced this? if so how do u fix it? and is it easy to do?

yes that will be the switch located on the gearbox, could be on the top or front not sure, easy to change pull the plug off undo with spanner or socket and its out. i had this on my mk2 golf

how do u get to the gear box? is it just through the gaiter where the gear lever is?

no its under the bonnet, either on the side or on top
