Oil temperature (1.9 tdi 110 AFN)

Hi Chaps,

Can anyone tell me what kind of temperature the oil should get to on a long trip? On my '99 1.9 110 hp TDI, the water usually hovers around the middle of the gauge, around the 90° mark, however the oil temp usually just hovers around the 80° mark.

This seems low to me, especially as the middle of the gauge would be around the 120° mark. The oil certainly seems plenty hot when I open the filler cap, but I haven't gone to the extreme of sticking a thermometer in there.

Does anyone else's car actually heat up beyond this? Would it cause any problems if the oil was reading a low temp?

All sounds fine to me. Mine runs at similar temp. The oil varies ever so slighty, with an increase at sustained motorway cruising above 80 and on big hills.
