Just about to embark on a much needed replacement of front discs and pads on my 1999 1.9TDi SE (110bhp). Fed up with the juddering

What (if any) 'special' tools are required for the job?

Good set of allen keys to the best of my knowledge.... its an easy enough job on the pd 130 .. Think the pd130 has different brakes to the 110 though, Bigger and meaner ones...

Thanks - I'll probably invest in a hex bit for my socket set then - 7mm isn't it?

it's a straightforward job takes about 1hr to do both sides as long as you have no problems. The only issue I had was that there is a retaining screw that holds the disc in place while you fit the caliper on mine the head was chewed and I had to heat it with a blow torch and jam the screwdriver in to release it. This one screw added another half an hour on to the job.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is a 7mm allen key. To make life easier try and get one to fit your socket set, It's a lot easier to apply the torque (without taking your knuckles off in the process).

    Thanks to all.

Completed job in 2 hours (both front discs and pads). Bought a 7mm socket - worked well with my small socket bar. Still have all knuckles intact! Had to use an impact driver to release the retaining screw on the discs - but they have been in place for the last 85000 miles. I now have smooth and quiet braking - the nearside disc was heavily scored and it looked as if one of the pads had managed to move inwards towards the centre of the disc - quite a noticable scoring by the inside edge of the disc.
