hi to all when my cambelt was done the joker who done it never done it properly i have been getting error code 0550 start of injection control timing, car has no power at all been to a few people who wasted my time finally got someone to sort it out turns out the timing was out badly now that the timing has been done the car does not start as the guy who put a second hand pump on done so by adjusting the pump timing just to get it going, the power problems were still not solved my question is if the timing has been done correctly can the diesel pump be timed to run with it correctly or do i need a new fuel pump to calibarate it as the mechanic tells me he,s got the timing right but the car will not start as the pump had advanced timing to make the car run

You dont need to remove the pump when timing the pump with regards to the engine. You should set the engine at TDC, then reset the pump and fit the locking pin on the pump, then refit the belt on the camshaft, while thats held with a locking plate, turn the tensioner clockwise until the notch lines up with the mark then turn the engine few times by hand couple of times... There are a few special tools to use but, i use an old driveshaft bolt to hold the pump sprocket, a spanner to lock the camshaft and i line the mark on the flywheel with the edge of the bell housing ! You will need a drift to remove the sprocket off the camshaft as well.
