Hi all! Im about to buy a 1.9 TDI golf estate (2000, W Reg) But it does not come with remote locking. Am I able to buy a key fob and program it to my car? Im asking as i dont know if the model I have supports remote locking.

The car is a 1.9 TDI s 100 estate.

I suspect the 3 button keys being sold on Ebay would work with it. About £30 to buy, £5 to cut, and free to program if you have vag com.

You would need to approach them for a quote. Personally I have no idea. They charge around £150 odd for a new key complete. I would hope only a small portion of that is the coding itself. They would need to access your SKC code to access the ECU - In theory it would only be 15 minutes work TOPS, so if they charge more than £30 for reprogramming, it's a rip off in my opinion.

Of course, anyone with vag com can do it for free, providing you have that 4 digit pin to access the ECU.

£150 is about right. The dealer mis-placed mine prior to me purchasing the car. They very nicely provided me with a brand new one free of charge of course.

Which is why a £30 key off Ebay, a £5 cut, and free programming is so attractive. I'm currently getting a 2nd key organised for me, and plan to get a third one, just in case.
