I have a 2000 W plate Tdis passat 66kw/90bhp its now covered 100 thousand miles and have herd a nozzle change is a good idea at this millage. I do believe it has .187 nozzles and was woundering would jumping straight to .216 be ok or would it be best to go with .205.

Bear in mind i do not intend to tune the engine so does anyone know what the outcome is and what sort of power each nozzle would provide if any.

Has any tried using the cheap nozzles from prothe on ebay and what was your outcome?

    Many thanks

i was going to post this last week, i wouldnt go with ebay ones though.

i have spoke to a few guys and they say that although my passat is chipped, it'll give it about 20hp on a standard engine, i worry about doing it though cos mine smokes a tiny bit during hard acceleration, this means not enough air getting in and unburnt fuel, if i was to stick even more fuel in, then it would smoke more in my opinion? would it mean having a remap? would it mean getting a replacement egr pipe and air filter to help the air/fuel ratio a bit more even? dont know if anyone has done it on here yet?

    mine

    110afn engine
    143hp chip

would i need a remap if i got bigger nozzles? i know the biggest ones would need a bigger turbo

If you are not after any performance gain, I would stick to one size larger nozzles (0.205µm)

I have tried Prothes nozzles and they ran 'ok' but in future I will only buy Bosch or Bosio nozzles.

If you are going to use 0.216µm / 0.232µm or larger nozzles with an existing chip, i would try to increase the boost on your VNT15 a little.

A retail or DIY adjustable electronic MAP mod or mechanical solution should easily and safely supply an extra 1psi or so, to reduce any smoke.

ive not heard of diy or mechanical methods apart from chipping or remap for these cars, would you be talking about a boost control valve or bleed off valve as per petrol turbo cars? or adjusting actuator?

The simplest version is a diode inline with the MAP (cant remember which pin).

With increased fueling, this will allow higher boost before the N75 feathers it.

The VNT15 is operating close to the limit, and a 'boost valve' of some kind may be needed to reduce spikes.

A hybrid turbo, 3 bar MAP and altered mapping is always a much better solution.

Why would you stick with .205 nozzles,is it to do with the smoke the .216 will produce and why not buy prothes again if they seem ok?

Many thanks for the info and reply

If you were going to tune your car, and wanted extra fueling potential then going up two nozzle sizes would make sense, but the nozzles alone will only bring around 7bhp.

You are better off sticking to the same or one size larger, or your fuel consumption could potentially suffer for a miniscule power gain (it really depends on your engine setup and driving style).

I ran 0.232 nozzles on my stock 110 TDI (0.205) with virtually no smoke.

If i were you i would fit Bosio nozzles of the correct size for your car, and buy a cheap 10pin ebay tuning box. This should give you a cabin switchable & adjustable solution from 90-135bhp with no loss in mpg.

Many of the cheap Chinese nozzles are quite good, the only real difference i noticed was a little more smoke and than the Bosch, and less smoke and power than a similar sized Bosio nozzle (i do not believe they will last as long as the more expensive nozzles though).

In the long term i think it is essential to fit high quality nozzles.

if mines already chipped (proper chip), what would be a good nozzle to use, get 55mpg all day long no matter how i drive it so losing a few wouldnt matter.
