My 1999 Golf GTI 1.8t is indicating that there is an ABS fault + the ABS light is on,along with the brake pad light on the dash.It was put on a computer and i was told that it was the passenger side front ABS sensor! I got 1 and had my friend (who's a mechanic) fitted it.When he did so the brake pad light came off but no ABS light! I dont understand as it has new break pads on it....
Is there more than 1 sensor on the passenger side front wheel or where do i go from there??
Im needing to get it done asap as its goin up for sale!
If anyone can help it will be most appreciated.

You may have to plug a diagnostic machine in to clear the fault code, should be ok then.

Do you normally have to put it on the computer? I just dont get why the brake pad light is off now but the ABS light stayed on once the sensor was fitted!

Some fault codes store permanently on the ECU until rectified and then cleared. It's a very good way of making revenue for manufacturers.

Unless there is still a fault with the ABS system, the light should go off untill the probllem reoccurs. ABS system has a self checking system wich works for 30sec. or so, every time the engine is started. So i would do a diagnostic check and see what other fault codes are logged...

Have you taken it for a drive? Some times that willput the light out when the system can see everything is working correctly.

Sounds like an open circuit on the wiring harness on the left front, we have had to change quite a few and it is fiddly to do.
