What kind of journeys are you doing your engine should be more efficient with cold air, especially on cold damp mornings, thats why they put intercoolers on diesels.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem - low mpg, and takes longer to reach operating temp. I've recently had the coolant tank/sensor replaced - would this cause fuel usage to increase?

    Also had 3 new tyres.

And finally had the engine temp sensor replaced too.

I get 30mpg local town driving (used to get 40ish), and get average 45mpg motorway (used to get 50mpg at least).

I had the MAF replaced about a year ago - would this be a contributing factor to mpg, as the car is still rapid.

Alan - the readings are from new. The trip 1 (from 1 cold engine trip, which is reset automatically) reads on average 30mpg local town driving average 45mpg motorway.

The trip 2 (total until reset manually when I re-fuel) has read between 42-45mpg for the past 4 refuels, which I had alot of motorway driving too.

I get pretty much the same mileage (low 40's) as my old man in his 2.0 diesel merc on similar roads. I'd say that unless it's throwing a code, then it's prob the type of roads & how much throttle has to be used to navigate them.
