    I have the registered version of vag-com 409.1 s.
It was working ok until i borrowed the cable to my friend as he was having trouble with his cable.......he said your cable dont work either.

I got it back and pluged in to my 2001 A4 audi and to my suprise it didnt work! WHY ? it was working 2 weeks ago, fine. Never had a problem, now when i plug into a car this is what i get:

    interface status = -1
    interface not ready !
    possible reasons
    incorrect com port
    interface not plugged in
    ignition not turned on
    k-line stuck
    update needed
for more details use test screen on option screen.

Please help! dont know why its gone like this!

Has it been used with a cigarette lighter adaptor to get the power source?

If so that's it. The cable has been fried basically.

Either that or your friend has tried to run it with 805 and tried to update the flash on the cable as I believe that can knacker old style cables

Is his radio an aftermarket one? What car does your friend own? Is your cable USB or serial?

His car has a problem that has toasted two cables, I have lost about six over the last few years (all genuine Ross Tech interfaces at £260 a blow) and the two main culprits were aftermarket radios wired up so they put 12v down the K line for the diagnostics to the original radio and car 12v lap top chargers that cause a current drain to earth through the cable due to a poor earth at the cig lighter. Does his car have the original VAG radio or an aftermarket item?
