Well, I've now had my Golf GTTDI 150 for nearly a week now and I am absolutely smitten!

Up until about a week ago I had an Alfa 159 2.4 JTDM (200Bhp) and I have to say the Golf leaves it for dead in the performance stakes. The only downside is that people (normally chavvy types in Novas and Corsas - don't get me started!) are trying to take me on at traffic lights all the bl**dy time! Still I can leave them in a cloud of dust and get back to the serious business of enjoying the car.

It sound's unlike any diesel I've ever driven (is it normal for a PD150 engine to make hissing dump valve type noises on the overrun each time you change gear???) and has immense torque so the traction control light is blinking at me until I get into 4th gear....

All this and on a long run from Birmingham to Manchester yesterday, the trip computer says I averaged 61.5 to the gallon.

It's the first time I've ever encountered a true win-win situation!
You own a Boxter - makes you wish you'd worked a bit harder and could afford a 911....

two things in your thread concern me , namely the hissing sound and the tracion control light staying on.

first of all, if you quick change gear, the hissing sound, although nice, is i believe an effective 'waste' of the turbo. you will notice it more as you drive a faster drive, eg short shifting. when you're in a settled 'normal' driving mode, you wont really hear it.(techies are welcome to explain more.... not sure of the techincals behind this)

secondly, the traction control light shouldnt be on that much, these cars have an immense amount of torque and although that gas peddle can be pushed all the way down, perhaps a little less gas may solve this problem for you? if you're not flooring it all through the gears, id consider getting a fault reader on the car as you may have a fault.

what i like to do with the 'corsa/nova' scrote owners, is allow them to get a little in front, let them massage their ego a little first, then as you get into 3rd gear and the turbo kicks in properly, just sail past them, quite calmly and collectively, 'tis quite funny

You're absolutely right eshrules - it's just that the novelty hasn't worn off yet and I am driving rather hard and short-shifting to make the most of the torque! The traction control light is only blinking when the conditions are damp which I suppose is only to be expected....

LOL do you know what i love, bearing in mind i stepped up from a brava 1.2 16v, compared to how i used to have to drive my brava to even touch 40mpg, it feels like im ragging the golf, but its supposed to be driven like that, not ragged literally, but you get my drift. i dont think you can get away with being namby pamby with these cars

but yes, if you're taking corners at 35mph, in damp, of course you're TC is going to blink at you LOL
