The quattro system on these is pretty good, and I havent heard many problems rearing their ugly heads.

The majority of the time, it works as a two (front) wheel drive, and the Haldex coupling is like a hydraulic clutch that is engaged as a difference in speed develops between the front and rear wheels.

If its a high miler, make sure that the haldex oil and filter have been changed (I think its 20k for oil, and 40k for oil and filter but dont quote me on that) ....

Make sure the cam belt, tensioner and water pump have been done around the 70K miles mark, and frequent oil and filter changes have been carried out.
Other than that, if there are any scary noises from underneath get them checked.

Like I say, I havent heard of any issues on here....one of the techs may have more to tell you?

    hope this helps

hi, i have just bought an A3 quattro 8l myself, i did have a slight problem with lumpy gear change and a noise from the haldex unit on full lock but a change of gear oil in the gearbox, a treatment and also changed the haldex oil (which is the same oil grade as the gearbox) and the problems have gone and i f**kin love it!

    couldn't be happier with it

Make sure the clutch is ok as there not cheap and try to scan the fault memory if they will let you for any hadex fault codes also if its a 1.8 turbo check its got a full service history and look for any invoices for engine repair and what oil has been used (mobile 1 or similar) also check the coolant is circulating and all the central locking works also make sure the air con is ok and the radio screen and dash are fault free.Apart from that there ok,o i forgot the gear box suffers from 2nd gear failure and the internal clutch slave cylinder leaks and the master cylinders fail.
