Hi, i have a 2001 bora 2.0L. today the engine management light came on, for what reason i have no idea..except during the same trip one of the side lights blew! could something as small as this cause it? if so should the light go out when bulb is replaced or does it have to be reset?

    anyone help?

    Thanks
    Rick.

brake lights will kick up the engine management light but don't know about side lights. I'd change the bulb first rather than get it put on the diagnostics £40 diagnostics vs price of bulb

thanks for the reply con1981......i changed the bulb and the light is still on. would the light go out automatically once the problem had been sorted or does it have to be reset some how?

ive only just bought the car so ive got a lot to learn as you can probably tell.

    thanks for you're input.

I'm presuming there's been no change in the way the car handles or drives. I'd check that your brake lights are working as i had a similar issue, two garages later it was diagnosed as a brake switch failure. Check the brake lights and if not take it back to the garage you bought it from they should rectify the problem if you haven't had the car for to long. if you bought it privately get a reputable VAG independent garage who knows what there doing to look at it. It is brake light related the switch is only £20 just watch out for the labour cost

sorry ain't got any experience of fault code readers. If your planning on servicing , repairing the vehicle yourself a definite must. I'd just keep in mind that you pay for what you get. A cheap as chips unit may not do what it says on the tin. I'm sure there are people on here who can advise you about software and fault code readers. Best of luck
