    Hi,
I was hoping for a bit of advice. I have a problem with my instrument panel on my mark 5 golf, 1.9 tdi. When i start the engine i get a bleep and "Error" message come up on the instrument panel.

The panel has been removed from before i bought the car, i have been told that its been damaged but also told that it will cost alot to go to VW and get the instrument panel changed as well as re-coded to the car.

Is it ok to buy a second hand instrument panel and get it recoded to my car by someone independent and add my current mileage back to the car?? Or would a second hand panel not be compatiable with my car?

    Hi,

Before you do anything.. You need to get the fault codes read on the cluster.

Once you know the root casue of the issue, then assess.

Take a look in our VAG-COM section where a member maybe able to help you read the codes.

    Cheers

    Rick

If you change the cluster a dealer will have to re-code the immobilisor

Was you not worried the the insument cluster was damaged when you bought the car? Possibly clocked?
Most VW specialists or a good locksmith would be able to recode it for you.
