oil pressure / level warning light

golf tdi 1.9 se. 52 reg. my sons car. can any one remind me how low oil level / low oil pressure is shown on dash. handbook states that it comes on when there is a problem. also states it does 'not' come on with dash display when ignition key turned just prior to start up. i'm used to 'oil can' light coming on and then out when engine fires up. rather know its working than wait for fault to prove it. as to checking the oil once a week, '' i will one day'' is stock reply. ''too much trouble'' '' get a life''
i wonder if he'll think the same if and when the engine blows through lack of oil.
'dad, cars broke down' 'i got a life son. you got the £?000 to fix the car?''

Hi m8,

Should come up with a yellow oil can on the dash if the oile level is low, and a red can of the pressure is low, also if the vehicle has D.I.S it will come up in the central; display of the dash insert.
