Hi Im a newcomer to this site and would welcome some advice.

Can anyone tell me how I can upgrade my A4 concert stereo to a Bose system.
I have called Audi who have said it can only be factory fitted?
Has anyone ever done this by perhaps obtaining a system form a breaking car and fitted one?

    Thanks

    Hi,

the Bose system consists of different speakers, a processor unit and a multichannel amp hidden behind the rear pannel in the boot. the head unit is exactly the same, except that it will output a 'flatter' non altered signal to the bose processor / amp.

If you can get hold of all of the bose items, it can be retro fitted, ive done this myself in the past, but to be honest, for the same money your better off getting a good quality amp/speakers/sub from an audio shop and fitting these. you will get better sound quality than the bose system. Keep the factory head unit, ground the bose pin on the back (to give a flat signal output) then use the preouts to drive the amp.

There isnt a processor in a BOSE equipped A4 B6 or B7. What model A4 do you have?

You need all speakers(including the centre dash speaker), boot mounted amp, Rear sub (shelf mounted in a saloon, boot mounted in a avant) the BOSE mic that goes in the interior light, and quite a bit of new wiring to run from the headunit to the amp in the boot.

I got all the bits from a breakers for £200 so I am putting it into my A4 B7 saloon.

Yes you will get better sound from an aftermarket system but it will cost more than £200 for a decent set-up. I dont want extra amps/bass boxes in my boot so have chosen the BOSE route instead, and it also keeps the car OEM which is important (to me at least!)

You also need access to VAG-COM to re-code your headunit.

Its at one side in the boot, like the Avant.

Complicated? Hmm maybe, Audi never seem to make anything straightforward. I reckon it will take me a day to do. If it ever stops bloody raining outside!

    Hi all,

the Bose system in an A4 B6 variant does have a processor. its built into the amp and uses a microphone in the head lining to correct volume levels/background noises etc.

take a look at this, it may be of some help...

Just spotted that your getting the cabriolet, good choice :-)

Just to point out, the speaker sizing is different on the cabriolet over the saloon

Yes OK but its part of the Amp though and is not a seperately available component. Your list made it look (to me anyways!) like it was a seperate part that you would need if retro-fitting BOSE.
