I have an Audi a6 3.0 tdi just recently when I start the car I hear a loud click, some times it starts first time and other times it doesn't.

I took the starter motor out and it was very dirty cleaned it all up, now the problem is when I connected it back to the car as soon as I put the negotiate cable back on the battery. the starter motor keeps on turning.

have I connected the wiring it the wrong way.

the picture shows the connection points on the motor. where does the white wire coming out of the motor go, to the left or right of the solenoid, the left bolt has 30 written next to it so I guess that is where the power cable goes?

    any help would be appreciated.

    picture attached.

Was your starter motor full of bits of metal? I think the DMF may of had it and took the starter with it.

the internal contacts of the solenoid will not be "making" when it throws forward.
they may be burnt out,or may just clean up if you are very lucky, but won't last long.
