Hello all. The electric window on the drivers door developed an intermittant fault. It would not go all the way down but always returned back to closed.

Now the window has stopped working altogether. If i press the switch to lower the window, i get a "click" but thats it. This "click" is also happening if i close the already closed window.

I've used the search function on this site and have checked the loom between the door and chassis, all looks o.k. Good continuity between motor connector and loom. I've also used the key to lower the windows from the door lock standing outside. The drivers window does not lower, the other 3 do. I think i've ruled out switch and power.

I think its either the regulator or the motor thats gone. Can i just swap a rear window regulator, motor for the front?

Or has the regulator had a funny and thinks that the window is already open so wont lower it? I've read here that it can be reset?

Anyway, help much appreciated. This is just the last thing to do on car. This forum has been great in helping me with other bits such as code reading/ diag, vac pipe splits, AMM sensor replacement and secondary air injection probs. Hope it can help with this niggling window!

Hi its possible that the cable drive has snapped if your window will not move at all. A quick way to check if this is the case is open the door put one hand either side of the window and try and move it. If it moves then the cable has snapped if not then it may be the motor or the regulator.

Not sure if they can be swapped so hopefully another forum member maybe able to shed some light on that.
If it ain't broke leave it alone!!!

Hi Panzerdriver. Thanks for the reply. I tried to move the glass as you said but it stayed very much in place. At least that narrows that part down.

I dont mind swapping the rear motor/ regulator for the drivers door. Just not sure if that can be done.

On another note, after taking the card off the door and having a root around, i couldn't have put the door catch cable back properly. As i went to get out off car at work i hear "clunk" and door wouldn't open. Had to get out passenger side cos i cant wind down drivers window and open door from outside. Prize plank i felt. Still you live and learn!
