*****! Car went back this morning, money and old car back! Livid! A bit of digging for history on the car revealed a discrepancy in the mileage (100k on clock in 04 and 100k service in 04 - 82k on clock in in 2007?!). Not happy!

    Garage didn't even bicker!!

Still, off to test drive a passat 1.8 20v tomorrow with full s.h. on a V reg.

    So p&$$ed off

At least you've managed to hand it back ok- it's no wonder 2nd hand car salesmen end up with a bad reputation when they try and pull crap like that

Hope the passat works out for you!

'Kin 'ell - you did the right thing! You really ought to pass the details onto Trading Standards - this is a cut and dry case, and the ******** (never a truer meaning!) need prosecuting, if only to protect other less fortunate people falling into the same trap! BTW, did you get that one HPI'd?

Best of luck. Get this one HPI'd, and ideally get a mate/mechanic (really ideally with VAG-COM to read fault codes) to give it a once over.

All sorted. Took Passat (V reg, 1.8 20v) out on test drive, nice to drive (wish it had CD player instead of cassette deck but hey), feeling could do a lot of mileage in it, comprehensive service history from 10k service to present 120k service (including notices of puncture repairs and various other little repairs), sorted a deal to include 6 months warranty, 12 month MoT, taxed till May and to close the deal today, the garage are going to replace the cam belt for 60 quid!!!

Oh and I payed (including my car at trade in) £755.

Not bad for a 2 owner vehicle I think

Make sure they change the water pump when they do the timing belt - these can be a weak link, and throw the belt!

Hope this one lasts a little longer than the Bora
