Hi, I will be changing my fuel filter soon, but looking at the price of the genuine items, i'm wondering if they are worth the extra outlay or are there just as good aftermarket ones available? it's to go on my 2000 (X) 1.8T Avant A4. Thanks in advance.

I used a halfords filter on my 1.9tdi. Its fine, made the engine smoother and improved MPG a little, this was most probably due to the fact that the old one was filthy and black. In all honesty, the filters are probably made in the same factory and just get a different sticker on them, then sent to different places.

Headlight Conversion, 2x8000k HID kits, De-cat downpipe, .216 Nozzles Boost Gauge, Colour changed on climate control and all buttons, LED instrument cluster, LED number plate lights, LED rear/brake lights, Lowered 40mm on SPAX springs. Soon to have GT1749VA

I'd either use the real-deal or quality parts such as Febi, Mann, Bosch, etc. The fuel filter is an (every 20k) item and will cost about £20. You get what you pay for in my book.
