£700 is cheap for a clutch with the dual mass, Audi are quoting without the DMF and they are naughty for doing so as only the foolish do a clutch and not the DMF. A DMF from Audi is £530 for the part alone plus £200 for the clutch (genuine) and then about five hours labour so I don’t see where Audi get £400 from.

after thinking i had it fixed the epc light had come back on with the usual spluttering and then the reduced power mode.my local garage had even fitted a new high pressure pump .it ran ok for an hour or so then the epc light came on.i cut my losses as they had hit a brick wall with it and took it to an independent vw/audi specialist.they too were stumped for a while as there diagnostic was throwing up all sorts of codes associated with fuel problems/pressure.they checked everything they could think of all fuel related- pumps/filters/ until they stumbled across a possible sticking valve.they took off the exhaust manifold and head and found the valves were sticking long enough (tenths of a second) just enough to throw off the cars ecu and thus think it having fuel problems.they said they had never seen valves so dirty actually along the shaft of the valve. They managed to clean them and flush out the engine.Cause of it- they suggest it was a mixture of short journeys and the dreaded supermarket petrol. ( they have seen 3 fsi engines this year with similar problems).it s currently been running better than when i bought it for now ( 2 days ago) but they suggest if it happens again it could have gone too far and i am looking at for new injectors. fingers crossed and touch wood..........................

    hi,
done 300 miles since the de coke and i had a splutter this morning on the way to work and the epc briefly came on and thus limp home mode.Switched off, restarted , running fine, got to work and then came home with no running problems. To be fair ,there since i have had all the work done the car is running well except for the blip this morning- is there a way of cleaning /checking the egr valve simply without having to go to a garage (again!!)I have seen similar problems associated with a4 1 .9 tdi engines ( limp mode etc) but i dont think it s egr valve related but there seems to be alot of reference to cleaning valves/ air intakes etc with these engine system cleaners????

That will have stored a code, you need to know what it is.

i dont have any codes yet, i dont have access to a vagcom but may get them when i eventually get it to garage however, before i picked up the car after the recent de coke they suggested that if this doesnt work they suggested that the injectors may need replacing as a possible cause of the fault.i have never heard of this ever (pricey too at at least £140 each x 4) !!!!! i am losing faith...................

p.s. i dont know if its ever had any coils replaced (not even sure if thats the problem - obviously need codes), but i am stuck for getting it to a garage until the weekend . i am in the rac , do they have diagnostic software?

failing that, does the infrequency of the problem shed any light on the problem i.e if it was say a faulty injector would it be happening all the time or say every 3 minutes of driving?

on the subject of coil packs- how does these failing manifest itself in the car? i have spent a few hours trawling the web and this forum and there seems to be a common thread for these failing for my car and its year ( a4 2.0 fsi 2002).

my cars symptons when the epc light has come on have included the car shaking violently and having no power, never mind it entering limp mode.it has also stalled on a few times over the last couple of weeks when the epc light has come on .this in addition to the garages finding no fuel pump/filter problems apart from the hideous carbon build ups in various parts of the engine.

please help, my laptop is that hot i think its going to catch fire.

is it worth giving the rac a shout

another post - i must remember it all and get it all on one post.

also when my car was at the vw/audi independent specialist the diagnostic machine kept up throwing of sorts of codes and it couldnt pin point anything in particular as it was throwing funny up voltage readings.they thought it was their machine and so ordered a new part of it but new one still had problems.could this point to something electrical inparticular?

i know this is vague but trying to put out the big picture and give the complete background on my car so far.

    thanks in advance
