Hey, was just wondering about to get my Golf SE FSI tomorrow cant wait - hah! Anyway my question is, I have a iPhone and iPod nano and was wanting to hook it up to the cd player that comes with it, is that possible? If so what do I need to do? Or will it need to be a new CD player I would need? Cheers.

You have a few options I dice (ray smith car audio) or xcarlink one of the sites sponsers. To be truthful the choice is endless just do a search on this section and should come up no problem.

What hifi do you have could it be RCD 300?

Make sure you check whatever interface you try that it is compatable with the iPhone.
I have unlocked and upgraded the fireware on my iPhone and it look me 3 attemps to find a head unit or controller that would work with it!

Do you want to hook it up to play music or as a handsfree phone?

If it's for music, read my article on the forum about how to install an ipod cradle.
    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=47283
Carcomm also make cradles for the iPhone (CMIC-102) and Nano. This will plug into the CD multichanger socket using an adaptor cable.

Using a cradle mounted on the dash means you can see the tracks - they will not be displayed on the head unit.

Not sure about hooking up a phone via bluetooth (that is what you should use for the iPhone). I have a proper handsfree kit with a cradle that I installed for my phone - but that has a cradle that the phone slots into. I use a THB Bury car kit. This has a standard adaptor onto which you clip a cradle specific for your phone. They make cradles for the iPhone and also a Bluetooth Adaptor. The great thing about this system is that you just need a new cradle when you upgrade your phone.

I would go for the CarComm iPhone cradle for playing music, and then add in the THB car kit with the bluetooth adaptor.

The handsfree kit is simple to install. You need a couple of adaptor cables - plug it all together and it works first time!

Both, I want to use it for music and to use the phone aswell, that base unit would that mean I would have when someone is speaking to me going through all the speakers in my car and that includes a mic aswell, what would you say is the best for both music and phone capability?

    Thanks for the help.

The THB car kit includes a mic - I have mounted mine at the top of the driver's A pillar. When you get a call the head unit mutes the music and the speech comes through the speakers.

By using the bluetooth adaptor, it will detect the phone whenever it is in range and use the hands free kit for calls.

If you get the iPhone CarComm music cradle, it will charge your phone and allow you to use it for music. Plus the phone will be in range of the bluetooth handsfree kit. It will also let you see the track and who is calling you.

I am not aware of a solution that will do both jobs. The headunit has different inputs for music and phone sound.

The only other option is to upgrade your headunit.

The THB car kit can that be used with the 3G iphone? That kit looks good so you think a mix of both the kits the THB and then the iphne carcomm music cradle will do both for me or am I getting it wrong?

I guess the THB car kit will work with the iPhone. AKAIK the bluetooth adaptor is designed to work with any bluetooth phone.

You would need to install the two bits separately. The THB kit with bluetooth adaptor would allow any bluetooth phone to interface with the stereo through a phone telemute lead, take calls, mute the stereo and use the speakers to hear the conversation.

The Carcomm cradle will allow the iPhone to playback music through the stereo's multichanger socket, and it will charge the iPhone. Put it somewhere you can see it to allow you to monitor the track being played and who is calling.
