    Hi guys

I am looking at buying a4 cab 3.0 V6, Is there anything I should ask about or look out for?

I guess checking the electrics (like the boot lock) and that there is no fraying in the hood or round the rear window.

Any comments welcome, especially about the engine.

    Thanks

p.s got a Ibiza cupa for sale if anyone is interested?

I was going to go for the 3.0 but got the 1.8 instead (a good quattro turned up) - and actually very pleased with it. I would aim to pay around £8.5K for a 2004 model with around 45K, full leather and get the sport model. I personnally avoided the multi-tronic, I think that was a good move... Make sure it's been well looked after - pretty much the same as any car. I always look at the previous owner - ie is he a boy racer or a rich guy who spent money on the car when it needed it... Let us know what you find!

When I was looking I found that:

The roof storage compartment lever in the boot didn't retract all the way up on a few I saw.

Check that the glovebox door isn't too stiff as if it is - these have a tendancy to snap at the hinge and then the whole glove box needs to be replaced!

Be very wary if its a Multitronic gearbox as they are prone to fail if the oil hasn't been replaced regularly and are expensive to get fixed.

    The V6 3.0 or 2.4 can't be remapped/modified whereas the 1.8T can.

Check the Econ red light goes out and stays out once pressed - otherwise the Aircon needs looking at.

Try and get one with as many extras as posible - Heated seats a must - Bose stereo v good - and avoid 16" rims!

Having owned mine for nearly a year - in my opinion, out of the full range (upto 05) I'd go for the 1.8T Quattro.

Electrics are everything. Check windows, heater, air con, roof etc.
If you get multitronic listen for any knocks at all, also check reverse engages with no problems and test the tiptronic works ok. Any gearbox issues, run a mile.

Theres some bargains to be had out there currently but remember you're due a cambelt at 5 years so will be shelling out best part of £500 straight away if its not already done.

Also check FSH is genuine. And the obvious engine checks for mayonaisse etc although a small amount of milkiness on the filler cap is expected in these engines apparently due to the thinness of the oil.
