Just picked up my first audi this week, a '99 A6 Avant 2.5 tdi quattro auto.
It is a nice car and im well impressed until this morning. Got almost to work and it started feeling like it was rumbling along the road…when I got to the office it sounded like it was running on 5 cyl's not 6…
Parked up and got out. Noticed a small puddle of liquid dripping from and area at the o/s front. Could this be diesel I wondered.
A cylinder down on an diesel surely can only be problem with fuel supply (including pump and injector) or compression problem on one cyl.
Car is going back to the garage to be looked at.
I hope this isnt going to be a big prob.
History shows a new injection pump fitted at about 4 years old, so hopefully its not that.
My guess is the fluid dripping is diesel and I may have a high pressure line that’s leaking and/or the injector on that cyl is broken not giving enough fuel…
Went out aboput 2 hours later, started the car and its still lumpy with maybe a cylinder down and a new drip appeared...
Any one else had similar problem? Or leakage form that area?
    Cheers guys

Is the front of the engine dry. I would be concerned if the timing belt has been contaminated. Regards Peter

fuel seemed to be pouring off the side of the head, being that the head is on an angle. im gonna give it a good look over tomorrow so i'll eye-ball the belt and see what its like.

    good point though!
last thing i want with my new motor is the belt failing.
