    Hi,

I recently purchased my 2004 A4 2.5 TDI Cabriolet at the end of it's lease (it was my company car until I retired in March).

It's been serviced by Portsmouth Audi throughout the lease period.

Having seen Portsmouth Audi's hourly charge (the bill was prviously picked up my the leasing company) and receiving a letter saying the Cambelt should be changed at 5 years for UK based cars (not as recommended by Audi Germany) I am now looking for an independent Audi Specialist to do any future work.

Does anyone have any recommendation in or around Portsmouth.

    Thanks in anticipation.

P.S. I spotted the reference to an Eastleigh garage in the Fleet/Basingstoke thread but I am looking for something closer if possible.

    Thanks fattysaudi,

I actually got my cambelt and MOT done by IGS at Eastleigh last week!

Very pleased with the price and service.

I have been told about the guy near Port Solent "this week" by another Audi owner so I think I'll pay them a visit!

    Thanks again for the input!

    G.

Hi, the guy in question is Cornelius at German Auto Engineering in Port Solent. His website is at www.germanautoengineering.co.uk

I've used him a number of times and can confirm that he's superb, knows german cars inside out and he won't fleece you.

    Cheers

I took my A6 2.5Tdi to him to track down an oil leak. Firstly I was a little late when I dropped the car off, well about 90 mins and he gave ME a bollocking. He phoned me to tell me what he was going to do before he did it. I picked the car up on the Tues morning. The bille was £213 as he added some additive as well. I was a little shocked at the price but I do know how long it can take to take it all apart so I thought fair enough. Anyway, I handed him £220 in £20 notes and he took them off me and put them in his tin and assumed that I didnt want any change! I didnt say anything, maybe I should have. Anyway I checked the engine a couple of days later and the leak was still there. Which is fine because driving was all part of proving were the leak was coming from. Anyway he told me he had stripped it all down, cleaned it all so he could see where it was coming from and I looked at the engined and yes the New Sump which was fitted a couple of weeks prior to taking it to him looked clean but other areas that he had pointed out to me that may have oil leaks hadnt been cleaned at all. So all in all I felt like I had been fleeced, i.e. he just added the additive and did nowt else. I hope Im being paranoid but I dont think I will be taking it back to him. I asked him about my parking sensor problem and he told me he wasnt an electrician and I should take to an electrician. He did however, fix the back plate problem I had after a recent CV Boot change. What does everyone else think?

Id be shocked to but fear not id jus ring him up ave a chat with him, as u know oil leaks r hard to find as u cannot pressure it up check. Also its not uncommon if uve had new oil put in that it finds its way out of every gap... But still start by having your engine steamed clean thus eliminating any doubt there are ppl that will come out. Thhen keep n eye on it say to cornelious about ull keep n eye but would like him to look too. I know him personally he wouldnt fleece u hes one of last genuine garags that know there stuff

Totally agree with FattySaudi, chapmag and r8audi - Cornelius is a top bloke! (as is Paul, his colleague)

I put a post up a few days ago about what other people thought and just stumbled across this one too. Just been to him to get the MOT done on the Golf (they dont do them at his workshop, but take them around to another place round the corner) and he checked the car over prior to putting it in, and then called me to say it was all fine and to come and pick it up. he didnt charge me for any of the pre-checks and only charged £40 for it.

I have taken my cars there ever since they sorted a starter motor for me about 3 years ago and have kept going back ever since. as per the other threads he doesnt mince his words but definately knows what he is doing and his bills are always very fair. he changed a gearbox for me about 2 years ago and only charged 3 hours labour, even though i knew he had spent well over 5 hours on it.

I would throughly recommend them to anyone who asks.
