    Hi

Me again with another problem. Lately I've noticed a whining noise coming from my TDi, usually occurs at low speeds. Its not very high pitched, sort of like a light graunching sound. Seems to occur more after turning the wheels, ie when on a roundabout or after turing into a sideroad. Tapping the breaks to slow the car seems to stop it, as soon as the break is released it continues. Could it be wheel bearings or something?

    Thanks for any help

    Hi

No help but a fellow-sufferer with wife's tdi estate showing similar behaviour for the past year. Local VAG technician confident that it was gravel between brake pad and disc. Renewed discs and pads with no improvement whatsoever.

After two or three unsuccessful trips to my local garage I had engine mount bolts, steering rack, suspension and wheel bearings all checked with no positive diagnosis but advice to "wait until it gets worse then come back in." It later passed its MoT without challenge. Well, now it is worse in wet weather but all but disappears when the sun comes out! I shall ask them to test-drive it again at the next service and hope that this time the problem can be identified.

Best of luck please post any successes and I'll do the same and who knows perhaps we can both drive quietly again!

    Mike
