Hi, I have been puzzled by this for a while now and nobody else seems to know what it is, and I cant find a reference to it anywhere in the manual. So just flinging it out there to see if anyone has any idea what this illuminated diplay means ( I have circled it in the picture, cos I know the (P) is for the handbrake thank you!!).

    Cheers

its to do with the engine. If it comes on when your driving you have a fault. (to do with the emissions) Could be something like your catalyst convertor. Take it into a an audi centre to get it looked at.

In your manual it should be at the start of the book. About the 'instruments'

That light is called 'emission control system'. Tell audi service department this and do it sooner then later...

basically as above said. it measures how much air goes into the engine and measure what is coming out! if there are any leak the will not be as much coming out so the light comes on! at tick over does it shake? and from under the bonnet does it sound like its whistling! because mine was on and it was an air inlet connecter pipe dislodged and letting air out!

Ah right hat makes ense now, because I havent got a catand the emmissions are prety bad. Ive got a straight pipe fitted to a Miltec exhaust.

However i have hunted through my manual and there is absolutely no mention of the emmisions control system. The diagrams show all other lights except this one which is blank in my manual.

    Strange.

Car is abslutely fine at tick over and doesnt shake at all.

However when my armrest is up and i am driving there is a rattle that drives you mad coming from it. Tried to get it to stop with blue tac (hi tech stuff eh!) but to no avail. i just turn the radio up...

    Cheers.

imo, its the 'general' engine management light, for more detail you'll need to get the fault codes read...

[pricey at audi, but i'm sure theres peeps on here who'd help a bit cheaper ]

i've had that light appear once or twice due to airflow problems...

If you don’t have a cat, that light will keep coming on IF your car is a two lambda sensor model, you don’t tell us what it is, year and engine code. On an OBDII car the only way to stop it coming on is to employ a lambda cheater, which is a circuit that lies to the ECU telling it the cat is working OK.

A fault code read will show you why the light is on and whilst there may be other codes stored, one of them should be

    16804 (P0420) Bank1, catalytic converter system Inefficient”

and without reinstalling the cat or fitting a lambda cheater circuit to the rear probe, that light will keep coming on. How do you plan on obtaining an MOT certificate?
