    Hi,

I am thinking about buying a VAG 1.8t and at the mo the quattro is the favourite.

But I have been told the quattro can be sluggish, thirsty and expensive to repair suspension parts?

So what should I get the normal front wheel drive car or the quattro?

Please scuse the noobie question btw!

I have a 1.8T Quattro and have driven lots of different models (used to work for Audi). I find the performance seems very similar as although the Quattro has more power, it is heavier. The Quattro tends to feel more 'planted' on the road when driving quickly and it's always nice to know that you have the security of a 4 wheel drive setup under you. I get around 37mpg on a good motorway run of over 100 miles, and around 30 round town. As for the suspension parts, the anti roll bars (common knocking fault) take longer to change on a Quattro but not much else has gone wrong with mine to be honest.
Up to you really, drive a few and weigh up your options.

    Al.

I have a Quattro and although I haven't driven a 2wd version there is no disappointment in the Quattro's performance.
I had it remapped from 180 to 213bhp and the 4wd system holds the power down to the road perfectly with incredible grip in the wet whereas the 2wd wouldn't do such a good job.
    The choice is yours...

hi, i have just bought an a3 quattro and i agree totally with AL UK, it is a dream to drive and as he says it has more power than the 2wheel drive version as it is 180bhp instead of 150. any other expenses that comes with having 4wheel drive is all worth it, especially if you intend to chip your ecu, also tyre wear is much more evenly spread. i will most prob never go back to 2wheel drive
