My 2L DSG diesel Passat is misfiring at slow speed. The problem began after the statutory recall to 'remaster' the engine. (I bought it in July and they did that in September 2006). I don't know why - the car was running perfectly. After the electronic modification the car never ran as well again. In general it is a superb car - especially for the motorway. It responds well to decisive acceleration (although it chucks out a nice black cloud of exhaust if you kick down hard). The problem is at slow crusing speed especially when the car is cold. I am aware of repeated acceleration 'drops'. Recently the drops have been followed by momentary surges. So, Im talking about starting the car from cold and joining traffic at 20 to 30 mph. It's bump, bump, bump. When the car has warmed up it goes away. On the other hand one other feature doesn't go away and it started after the recall and that is a moment of inertia when you start from standing still - you put your right foot down and there is a delay before acceleration kicks in. Can that be the turbo causing delay? Sorry to rabbit on, but does this sound familiar to anyone? VW say there's nothing they can find. Thanks, Pif.

The moment of inertia sounds like a DSG related issue reported in various forums by a number of people. Hopefully some of those people will contribute their two pennyworth.

Just out of curiosity, I wasn't aware they made 1.9 DSG?

Thanks, Gamichea. Did you know there is a recall on the passat diesel DSG 2006 for the replacement of the fuel pump? Apparently the pump has been failing at high speed on the motorway, although that hadn't happened to me. When I reported this less important glitch VW deigned to mention the recall and gave me a new pump (which leaked a quantity of fuel until they replaced the seals on it incidentaly). Unfortunately it wasn't the answer. Thanks again, Pif.

You're right. It's 2L. I confused it with my previous car. Thanks. I'll put it right. Pif.

Yes, thanks Pif. Its not just DSG equipped cars. There's a long thread on here about it. Mine's been done before any failure occurred I'm pleased to say. I think the DSG issue I mentioned is software related but a mechatronics malfunction is also possible, I guess.

Mine is the same! from cold whilst warming up, slow steady speeds are impossible without it hesitating Even with the chip removed it still does it... Its had the fuel pump changed, MFA changed, still the same; seams to be getting worse as the miles pile on (97k now) goes like a rocket at the top end though so not complaining....

Hi, have a look at this thread
    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=45019

My car is going back to VW tomorrow for the 4th time. It had the fuel pump changed at the first visit.
Each time VW had said that they couldn't find anything wrong. My car only seems to do show this problem when the engine is cold, and the outside temp is above 23 C. After about a mile or until the engine temp is above 80C it's fine. Is this anything like yours?

SteveX, you have a corbon copy (no pun intended) of the way my car runs. I'll have a look at your link and will post a solution if I find one. VW has failed to identify problems in cars we have had over the years. Our local garage has solved them for us instead. Unfortunately the new culture of letting the computer do the work is no substitute for a man with a sound knowledge of mechanics. Pif.
