Can someone tell me, is the current B6 Passat built on the same platfrom as the A4? What are the main difference between a Passat and an A4.

My Passat Estate is the same size, give or take a few millimetres as the A6 Estate that it replaced. It's actually slightly longer, according to the brochure. It's much bigger than the B7 version of the A4. Unless the new B8 version has been on steriods, it will be the same, but the Audi salesman was suggesting that the new car was going to be bigger. I couldn't be rrrssed to wait until the end of this year to find out.

I suggest you pop the brochures up on line and look for common wheelbase and track dmensions -this is a good indication of a common platform.

Short answer is no. Current (B6) Passat is on an extended Golf Platform, and as such has transverse engines. A4 is on what's called the MDQ (?) platform as is the A5 with longitudinal engines.
Nothing to see here, move along..

Yeah I saw it! The R36 does look really good, mainly because it had a lower ride height than the A4 and bigger wheels. Close race though, the TDi, with 60 bhp less than the R36, and weighing a bit more was only 0.2 secs slower than the R36. All the extra torque made up for the deficit in outright power...
