    Hi all

recently had my Golf mk4 TDI 130bhp re-mapped and i'm loving the changes! my clutch was on the way out anyway and predictably it slips around 2000 rpm when the turbo kicks in.

i want to put a decent and durable clutch onto it rather than a standard and then same thing happens. Can anyone recommend a site to use to buy the clutch itself?

    Cheers

    J

I run a Superchips remapped 150PD and the clutch lasted to 145000 miles until the gearbox seal went. Replaced with genuine Vag kit and all is fine again.

this months volkswagen driver magazine (september 2008) in the adverts at the back page 65 has a article about the zf sachs replacement solid flywheel cover and plate as a upgrade for high torque chipped engines. no mention of price though.

they do conversions for all the popular vw's petrol and diesel

    give them a ring on

The clutch isn’t the weak point, it is the flywheel and solid flywheel conversions are OK as long as you don’t mind a noticeable decrease in refinement from engine vibration transmitted into the car.

thanks for the ideas. it has done near on 100k miles over 5yrs and the biting point of the clutch is fairly high. would that indicate the clutch needs replacing? if so do i go standard or performance clutch? Any ideas??

As the torque has increased a fair amount should i be risking a standard clutch?

The clutch is very strong and reliable, being able to take 180PS and a 370Nm without seriously shortening its life span IF treated with respect. It is the flywheel which is the weak point and excessive slipping generates heat levels high enough to cause failure.
