Does anyone know how if the handbrake mechanism on the rear calipers can be rebuilt/overhauled on a 1992 Audi 80 2.0 (ABT)? The reason why I ask is that the rear calipers are only just working enough to pass the MOT. With calipers at £100 each I was considering stripping them down and rebuilding them, if a rebuild kit is available.
The discs and pads are new and the calipers are working fine on the foot brake.
    Any suggestions please!

Hi there, before you go ahead and strip the calliper down, i have just tonight had a look at my handbrake mechanism as it has been playing up for quite a while now. basically the shaft that enters the calliper gets water ingress and then rusts and gets stiff, this means that the handbrake shaft lever won't go back under spring tension to its stop. I completely overhauled an old Audi quattro rear calliper approx. 10 years ago and once the shaft is out and cleaned with emery paper and a new shaft seal put in place all was good. Tonight i had a look at my Audi 80 calliper and sorted it out in half an hour! If you remove the return spring and and disconnect the cable, remove the bolt that the spring pivots on and using a screwdriver to prise up the lever you can get it to move by 10mm or so, using a thin strip of emery paper clean the exposed shaft and use some penetrating oil work it back and forth and up and down, keep cleaning it and finally use some oil and put it all together again. Worked on mine and beats taking the calliper apart 10 fold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
