FunctionalityThe iPod preparation is connected up via the CD changer controls and is therefore identified by the radio or navigation system as a CD changer. iPod tracks are consequently controlled in the same way as operating a CD changer, via the buttons on the radio or navigation system plus with MMI operating logic. It is not possible to operate a CD changer and iPod adapter simultaneously, because they both use the same connection on the radio.

Existing playlists on the iPod are identified as CDs and displayed as CD1-CD5 in the changer controls. All tracks stored on the iPod are identified as CD6. The iPod preparation is unable to process information stored on the iPod for the artist, track, album and genre.

The current playlist, the track currently playing and the playing time of the track appear in the display of the radio or navigation system plus with MMI operating logic.

I don't fit the dock i fit the ipod kit Part number - 8E0051444A
    thanks for the reply
I have read the thread form beginning to end, and have set up the ipod as both a mac and pc drive with CD01 and CD1 style playlists (not at the same time), however the head unit always reads 'CD changer not connected', do i have a duff ipod adapter? the ipod displays (breifly) the Audi logo so I asume that the ipod is OK....

Do you know if the 4f0-051-510-j audi mmi bluetooth adaptor works with then new iphone 3gs and are all the usual functions available for bluetooth that the plug in mmi cable has? Presumably the bluetooth device just sits on the end of the cable in the glovebox and it operates the same but wirelessly?

    Thanks,

    That's the approved list for the 4F0 051 510 J ADAPTOR
I cant say it will work but it should as long as the function AD2P streaming is supported on your iphone as the connection is bluetooth so you pair up like you do to your phone prep and enter the code and the music transfers without interfering with other bluetooth devices.Hope that helps

Hi, I have a 2005 A6 3.0TDi and would like to add iPod connectivity through the MMI. I have been told that the Denison 500 is a solution. Is this true and are there any other solutions? What should I watch for?

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that as I have had the Audi for a week and as my first A6, I haven't a clue how to tell the difference! The MMI does have colour Sat Nav and Bluetooth. Could you tell me how to establish please? As far as moving to Oz is concerned, couldn't recommend it more. I left England 27 years ago and have enjoyed every moment. Happy to send you some adverts too if you like

Ok you have mmi high so i would retro fit AMI as this is the better system for your model the software versions for the MMI will require updating to allow the ami.If you plan to do the job your self i can help if you are using your local Dealer then ask for the AMI option, currently in the UK there fitted for £399 all in and dension 500 £300 all in but AMI is far better

Excellent! Thanks for the quick response. As to doing it myself, not sure whats involved. I am reasonably handy but does doing this invalidate the warranty? Does the MMI s/w upgrade have to be done by the dealer or can I get the discs and do so? I'll look up AMI in the threads as I am not sure what features it provides. Sorry for all the basic questions....

because you would need to lay out more money for diagnostic equipment i would say the dealer is the best option unless they quote stupid money but labour time should be no more than 1 hour and the software update should be done by the dealer as sometimes the phone prep can crash because the update erases the original software file to then update it and if a corruption occurs the control unit can some times suffer from complete failure so it makes sense for the dealer to carry out the job.Your questions are not basic and no doubt othere readers may benefit from this.Sister in law is in WOGA WOGGER if that makes any sense.

Thanks very much for the advice. I'll check with the dealer tomorrow and let you know how I go. So far they haven't seemed very keen on helping retrofit anything so maybe I'll have to source AMI from Europe and try doing it myself. Any help would be much appreciated. Wagga Wagga in New South Wales (pronounced Wogger Wogger) is about half way between Melbourne (where I live) and Sydney; has a population of about 50,000 and is the fifth largest inland city in Australia. Good weather if thats any interest
